A Week Full of Blessings for 18 South

What a week! During the week of Dec. 10-14, 18 South Youth Center had the pleasure of hosting the Red Lion Area Business Association‘s annual holiday party, our first Pastors’ Coffee Hour for 10 local pastors, and a Christmas Cookie Decorating Party with the help of Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion. These three wonderful events were major milestones for our youth center.

More than 30 members of the Red Lion Area Business Association attended the holiday party on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 18 South. It was such a privilege to provide a venue for this event, which also raised more than $600 for the center, enabling us to purchase a new WiiU system, WiiU games, and replace some equipment for our ever-popular Rock Band setup for Xbox 360. It is essential for our organization to remain current with its equipment so that we can continue to attract at-risk youth to our facility and use these tools to engage with the teens and build friendships. Thanks so much to the business association for helping us out in so many ways in 2012!

The morning following the holiday party, nearly a dozen local pastors were able to take a tour of the youth center and learn more about our vision, financial needs, and dreams for the future at our first Pastors’ Coffee Hour. It was a huge blessing to have such a wonderful response from the local church community. We’re looking forward to hosting another event in 2013 to give local pastors an opportunity to fellowship with one another.

18 South also had the distinct privilege to host a Christmas Cookie Decorating Party for its attendees during the evening of Friday, Dec. 14, thanks to some generous volunteers from Bethany United Methodist Church. The church  has been a regular financial sponsor of 18 South since February 2o07. Karen and Joe Oswald provided all of the cookie dough, decorations, and equipment needed to provide the youth with an evening of making holiday memories with the center’s mentors. The teens had a blast and were able to take home plenty of cookies to share with their families. A special shout out to Pastor Ron Doverspike from Bethany who also spent the evening at 18 South decorating cookies and playing hacky sack with the teens.
