Family Bonding Time at Creation 2014

Four mentors had the distinct pleasure of taking 12 teens from 18 South Youth Center along to Creation Festival Northeast at Agape Farm in Mt. Union, Pa., from June 25-29, 2014! Once again, our organization was blessed by the overwhelming generosity of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in Red Lion, who graciously allowed us to ride in their bus, eat their food (midnight burgers!!!), use their showers, hang out on their campsite, and sleep in their tents. We couldn’t be more grateful to be partnered with this lovely church family!

This year, our group learned very quickly that the dynamic changes quite a bit when you double the amount of teens you take on a 5-day trip like this (last year we took a group of 6 teens and 3 mentors). And so, the idea of Family Time emerged. Not everyone was immediately thrilled by the idea of splitting into groups separated by gender, but by the end of the trip when we were gathered around the campfire to rehash their experiences from the week, family time was by far the resounding favorite memory.

We navigated through lost retainers, scraped knees, chipped teeth, a few tears, and a handful of momentary bad attitudes, but the moment that I will keep with me throughout the rest of my life came from our final night in front of the stage. We managed to get our entire crew to stay on the tarp for most of NEEDTOBREATHE‘s performance. This resulted in a massive dance party that I will never ever forget.

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed towards the cost of this trip for our youth, including: Enzo’s Automobile Sales in York (who not only made a donation, but also hosted a Car Wash to help us raise money), Brooks-Huff Tire & Auto Center in York, Pleasant View Brethren in Christ Church in Red Lion, and DOVE Community Church in Red Lion!
