18 South Crew Enjoys Summer Man Retreat

A group of 5 volunteers and 15 teen boys from 18 South Youth Center ventured into the wilderness during the weekend of July 29-31, 2016 for our first ever Summer Man Retreat. The retreat took place at the beautiful Camp Andrews in Holtwood, Pa. The crew enjoyed group activities including zip lining, a giant swing, dodge ball, volleyball, a game room, yummy food, cabin slumber parties, and relaxing in nature. When the boys weren’t out and about having a blast, they were gathered together as a family talking about life and being real about God. Here are some quotes from a handful of the attendees about what the trip meant to them:

“Something that meant a lot to me was when the volunteers shared their life stories. It means a lot because they care enough about us to show that they were in a similar situation to us.”

“One thing that meant a lot to me on this retreat was being able to spend time with my friends and get to know who they really are and form better bonds as family. I think my most favorite part was when we spent some alone time in our cabins and shared what we were feeling inside. I also had a great time with all the activities including the kick ball game. Thanks, Max.”

“This trip meant a lot to me. I really had a lot of fun hanging out with the guys of 18 South. The sharing of the stories of the volunteers was really encouraging. Thank you for inviting me.”

“(I enjoyed) connecting and gaining friends and doing activities that made us all come together. It really felt like a big family all weekend long. It was great doing new things in such a positive environment.”
