2017 Winter Retreat Reaches Teen Hearts

From March 10-12, 2017, Camp Orchard Hill in Dallas, Pa., once again hosted a youth center-focused weekend as part of their Winterblast Retreat program. Through the generosity of our donors, 18 South Youth Center was able to take 20 teenagers and 6 adult mentors on this amazing getaway!

Special thanks go to Ray Beaver from First Student bus company for providing transportation and getting us there safely through some treacherous weather conditions.

The weekend was jam packed with fun and so much happened in the 40 hours we were there. Some of the activities included snow tubing, team building games, Nerf battles, rock wall climbing, karaoke, and much more. Even better than the fun though, were the moments when our kids were able to experience God in incredible ways.

George Moss, a Jesus follower and a rap musician, helped our kids to enter into worship in unconventional, yet powerful ways. In tandem with George, pastor Josh Ott did an incredible job of speaking to the kids about fear. He taught about fearlessly pursuing Christ and trusting in God to help overcome fears we have in our lives.

Each speaking session was followed by small group time where we were able to unpack Josh’s message more intensively. Josh’s passion and relevancy allowed for an easy transition into deep and meaningful conversations. Many in our group had their hearts softened and touched by God in ways they never had before. Several youth shared with the leaders deep wounds and hurts they had been wrestling with and carrying with them for far too long. This provided opportunities to pray with them and speak the Love and Hope God has for them into their lives. Through this time of sharing we saw some of these wounds begin to heal and lives transformed in powerful ways. The Holy Spirit was truly at work for the entire weekend and the experience left a lasting, life-changing impact on all who attended.

Here are some testimonies from the teens who attended the retreat:

“I had so much fun on this trip. I really connected with everyone this weekend. Thanks to Max and the rest of the leaders for letting me come. I love you guys.”

“I enjoyed the worship and talking in small groups.”

“My favorite part of the trip was getting close to God and the food.”

“My favorite part of the trip was the music and talk about how God loves us all and how our feelings can make a difference.”

“I enjoyed the trip with experiencing it with God!”
