18 South Hires David Portelles as Program Director

18 South Youth Ministries is elated to announce the hire of David Portelles as 18 South’s Program Coordinator in August 2019. A graduate of Bloomsburg University with a degree in Secondary Education, David spent five years as a High School English teacher before transitioning out of education in June of 2019. His experiences as both a student and teacher helped to ignite his interest and passion for working with Students:

“I was drawn to education because of the tremendous influence my teachers had  on my life and sense of self as a teen. I knew that I wanted to be that person of influence, and champion young people to compelling and life-filled futures. I grew to a place of discontent with my ability to express this vision for my life within the realm of education, and decided to walk away and pursue other lines of work. Almost immediately after the position at 18 South was brought to my attention, and I knew that I aligned with their vision of intentional positive relationship building with teens, and I had to get involved.”

David is also involved in the Worship ministry at his home church, Providence Community Church in Spring Grove, PA. As a lifelong resident of York County, his experiences working with students in the region over the past 8 Years both in the non-profit and educational sectors has fueled his passion for championing students and supporting their mental and emotional  health and development.
